Wanted Armed Robber Arrested In Park
Gateway National Recreation Area

Rangers came upon a man urinating next to his vehicle in the Gunnison Beach parking lot in the Sandy Hook Unit on the afternoon of August 3rd. The man was shirtless, displaying tattoos and markings that identified him as a member of the Bloods street gang. Visitation was high that day and there were numerous visitors in the lot. The rangers contacted him and found that his resident alien identification was falsified. They also discovered that he was wanted for armed robbery in Jersey City. He was arrested and locked up in the Monmouth County Jail. The driver was found to be intoxicated and arrested for DWI. A juvenile who was in the vehicle was released to guardians.

Rangers Successfully Intervene In Suicide Attempt
Shenandoah National Park

On Monday, July 28th, a Virginia man advised the regional office in Philadelphia that his father-in-law was missing, that he was suicidal, and that he might be headed for Shenandoah National Park. He asked if the rangers could be advised to keep an eye out for his father-in-law’s vehicle. The park’s dispatch center was notified and broadcast a BOLO (‘be on the lookout’ message) parkwide. On Tuesday, ranger Jeff Martinelli and field training ranger Carmen Barnard came upon the vehicle in the vicinity of Big Meadows and stopped it. They found the man inside with a loaded Ruger .357 magnum.  The rangers made the scene safe, then got the man to a hospital, where he’s now receiving psychological attention. Also assisting in the incident were rangers Patrick Seeley and Lora Peppers and dispatchers Johnney Whetzel and Lisa Bates.
